About

 Constance Brewer

Constance BrewerConstance Brewer is a poet, writer, and artist. She was born and raised in upstate New York, and  after extensive travel and excursions to other countries, finally settled in the population deficient state of Wyoming. Constance obtained numerous degrees from Buffalo State College, and the State University of New York at Buffalo. She also attended Capella University, and spent time at Canisius College doing ROTC. All that education allowed her to practice her writing on reams of topic papers, essays, and dissertation material.

While teetering on the brink of permanent studenthood, Constance received this message in a cup of Ramen noodles. "Get a real job". So she joined the military and served in the US Army Corps of Engineers in the U.S. and in Central America, alternately building and blowing things up for her country. (To date none of her structures have collapsed - voluntarily.) She retired from the military a Captain, and keeps camouflaged models of earthmoving equipment on her rather cluttered desk. Constance trained in Shimokawara Karate and applies the knowledge gained in martial arts and the military to help understand sword fighting, hand-to-hand combat, and the process of acquiring broken bones so she can correctly injure her fictional characters.

Constance started crafting poetry and novels in college, then took a break to dedicate her talent to writing Army fitness reports. Even stuck in the field, she somehow regressed to writing epic ballads about troop movements for her coworker's amusement. Raised on stories of her Italian ancestors, Constance developed an early love for history and mythology that is often reflected in her writing and art. The daughter of an Aerospace engineer, Constance has long been fascinated by flight and space, and continues the family tradition of taking vacations to faraway places - and promptly visiting the nearest airport to watch planes take off.

Constance belongs to Wyoming Writers, Inc., a statewide organization of Wyoming authors, WyoPoets, a statewide poetry organization, Bearlodge Writers, a writers group in Sundance, Wyoming, and the Word By Word Writer’s Society, an organization of women writers dedicated to helping each other succeed in writing and life. Constance will be one of the editors for the upcoming on-line publication, Every Day Poets.

She edited the 2007 Wyoming Paintbrush chapbook for the WyoPoets poetry anthology, and also did the cover and interior art. She will edit the 2009 WyoPoets Chapbook "Distant Blooms". When not writing or researching for her poetry and stories, Constance works for the government, and is there to help military veterans. At times Constance teaches Philosophy or Art History, at the local community college. She lives on the Periphery, with a teenager, a black cat, and a small but vocal herd of Welsh Corgis.

You can find Constance's poetry in the WyoPoets chapbook, Wyoming Paintbrush, in the Between Fences Anthology "Wyoming Fence Lines" from the Wyoming Arts Council, available through Amazon.com, and on her blog, Life on the Periphery.

Short Stories can currently be found in the Black Dragon, White Dragon Anthology from Ricasso Press, Every Day Fiction, and Reflection's Edge.
